Just wanted to send a quick note, as you have (or will have) probably seen on the news about the earthquake in Japan last night and the tsunami warnings across the Pacific. We are fine here in the Marshall Islands — the wave passed us without any effects. We give our thanks to the underwater geography of atolls! The lack of continental shelf prevented the swell from the tsunami from building into an actual wave, and we saw barely anything here on Majuro. I’m in touch with your children and I assure you we are all okay. Don’t hesitate to email with questions or specific messages — but again I assure you we are all fine!
Best wishes, Anna

I am totally fine. If we were in any kind of danger the US Embassy would have contacted us, as would our leadership. To my knowledge, it is highly unlikely that we could be hit by a large wave as a result of the fact that we are on a coral atoll which does not allow for waves to grow while coming towards land.
thanks for your concern!” —from my little brother at about 3am CST. he also posted on facebook.
